When was the last time you changed your toothbrush? Better yet, when was the last time you changed your loofa? With the busy lives we lead, we tend to forget the simplest of things; our hygiene rules! After reading this article, I recommend setting up some reminders or alarms on your phone, so you never lose track of when you should change your personal care items.

(Read more from our Health section here.)

1.Toothbrush

You should change your toothbrush every 3-4 months. It will usually show on your brush, the hairs will look worn out. So better hurry up, as the frayed bristles will not clean your teeth or gum thoroughly. Also, if you get sick, it is preferable that you change your toothbrush after getting better.

2. Hair brush

Damaged bristles can actually damage your hair, so it is important to change your hair brush once you feel like the bristles start cutting out your strands. However, if your hair brush is still in good shape, make sure you clean it at least once a month.

3. Loofa

While it may always smell so good thanks to your shower gel, your loofa can actually carry a lot of bacteria. Believe it or not, you should change your loofa long before it starts to tear and not scrub as well as it used to. To be more specific, you should change your loofa every three weeks.

4. Nail kit

Your nail tools are one of those items that don't need changing regularly, just make sure you invest in a good nail kit, so that it doesn't get damaged easily. However, you should clean and sanitize each of your nail tools after every use. Clean them by scrubbing them with soap and water, then leave them to soak for about 10 minutes in a disinfectant solution.

5. Razor

It's simple really, dull razors do not remove any hairs. More importantly, infected razors will lead to skin infections, red bumps, etc. Your razor should be replaced every week

6. Face brush

Cleansing your face with brushes such as the Clairsonic is very good for skin. However, bacteria is prone to live in damp environments, so you will need to change your brush every three months. Just make sure to clean your brush thoroughly after every use and leave it to air dry before packing it up or storing it in a closed place.

7. Ear plugs

For all the sound sleepers out there, be careful what you put in your ears. While ear plugs are Godsend, you need to monitor them to know when to throw them out. If you are using disposable ear plugs, change them every 3-4 days. Also, you will know it is time to change your ear plugs once they stop working as efficiently as they used to.
