Dermarolling, also called microneedling, has gained popularity because of its many benefits. Dermarolling has been linked to younger looking skin and reduced pores. It uses LED red light and microcurrent treatments to stimulate the skin, giving it a healthy glow and increasing absorption of topical serums by 200 times. Collagen production is increased with vertical exfoliation which smooths fine lines and wrinkles. Knowing how to properly use microneedling will allow you to reap the most benefits.
1. Use Quality Skincare Products
Based on your skin type, you'll need to determine the best topical skincare treatments. In addition to skin rejuvenation, dermarollers are also used to increase the absorption of serums, moisturizers, creams and other topical agents and to do so quickly.
2. Sanitize the Dermarolling Area
It's important to keep the dermarolling area clean by first sanitizing the table where you'll place your needles. The device must be placed on an area that has been cleaned with isopropyl alcohol or hydrogen peroxide to prevent contamination and the spread of infection.
3. Prepare Your Skin
Cleanse the areas to be treated with soap and water. Lightly exfoliating the skin will allow for better absorption of moisturizers and other skin care creams you choose to use. To enhance the therapeutic effects of the dermarollers, you should add one to two layers of a serum of your choice.
4. Use the Dermaroller Correctly
Knowing how to use the dermaroller correctly is essential for successful results. Gently roll the dermaroller in a vertical, diagonal and horizontal direction three to four times in one area. For facial dermarolling, you should roll it twice on your cheeks, lips, chin, neck and forehead. Don't press too firmly or you may induce pain. Apply just enough pressure to allow you to comfortably tolerate the microneedling. Be extra careful when treating sensitive areas such as under the eyes and lip area.
5. Make Dermarolling a Habit
There is no hard and fast rule as to how many times you should use derma rollers. However, it is a good idea to incorporate dermarolling into your skincare regimen and do it at least once a month. Some people use derma rollers a few times a week or as little as once per month. You should determine what your cosmetic goals are and use derma rollers to achieve those goals. At the very least, you should have a derma rolling session to stimulate the skin repair process which will bring about the cosmetic results you're looking for.
6. After Your Dermarolling Sessions
After each derma rolling session, you'll want to thoroughly cleanse your dermarollers. Check the needles for breakage. Don't share your derma rollers as this can increase the chance of spreading harmful bacteria that can cause infection. Make sure you regularly moisturize your skin in between derma rolling sessions as this will improve the overall condition of the skin making it more receptive to dermarolling.
7. Stick With Your Beauty Routine
If your goal with dermarolling is to reduce scars and other skin imperfections, you must stick with your beauty routine. Moisturize daily and keep you skin clean and exfoliated. Although it takes patience, you will see results from your dermarolling treatments as long as you're persistent with your skincare routine.
8. Give Yourself Time to Recover
Other skin rejuvenating procedures can leave you with downtime of two weeks where you're unable to perform your daily activities. But, with dermarolling you only need about two to four days of recovery time. You need to be patient and give yourself time to recover and the time you need for recovery will be dependent upon the area that has been treated.
