Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week Fall 2013 - Day 1
Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week Fall 2013 has kicked off with no other than supermodel Naomi Campbell who opened the Atelier Versace show. The 43 year old supermodel proved that she's still got it, walking the Versace catwalk for the first time since Gianni Versace's death in 1997. Designer Donatella Versace was inspired by the black and white photography of the thirties and presented a bold collection that included lots of bustier revealing pieces in a dark palette of colors.
Since Raf Simons became Creative Director of Christian Dior, a new taste has been introduced to the Dior fashion house. For the Fall 2013 Christian Dior couture show, Raf Simons sent down the catwalk a collection that was inspired by "women from different continents and cultures who wear couture" and you could feel the different cultures portrayed in the pieces. As you examine the Dior couture collection, you couldn't help but think, what will Jenifer Lawrence be wearing next?
Giambattista Valli is rapidly becoming one of the most awaited designers to present at Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week, as he has ability to fill the runway with coveted bespoke pieces and makes you wish you were a modern day Princess to wear those poufy dresses. The Giambattista Valli Fall 2013 show was a nod to Capodimonte, Italy’s royal Neapolitan ceramic workshop; that's why you could see lots of white and china-inspired floral prints.
Christian Lacroix, one of the masters in the couture world made a comeback this season only with a collection for the house of Schiaparelli, paying homage to the eponymous label. This was very exciting to see, the collection was exhibited in the very same place that hosted Christian Lacroix's last couture collection four years ago and it was every bit of the Lacroix essence; dramatic, theatrical and colorful. Schiaparelli and Christian Lacroix is one major fashion collaboration, where surrealism met couture in 18 looks, although Lacroix had initially prepared a total of 100 drawings!
The Alexis Mabille Fall 2013 show at Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week was an artistic one indeed, having been inspired by Italian painter Giovanni Boldini, you could see how the designer has transferred the artist's brush strokes into the pieces. Alexis Mabille even had the models' hair hand-painted with flowers, taking his theme onto all the details of the show.
