You may have seen Kate King in Dolce & Gabbana's Dolce fragrance ad, looking absolutely gorgeous. We had a quick chat with Kate King, as she told us all about her modeling career, what it's like being the face of Dolce & Gabbana's fragrance, Dolce, and she shared with us some of her beauty tips.

We loved your look in the Dolce & Gabbana ad! What is your everyday beauty routine?

For me, my beauty routine really starts with my skincare and wanting to take care of my skin. Make-up is just something to enhance that natural beauty. My beauty routine in the morning starts with cleansing, toning and then moisturizing  every morning and night. During the day I wear no make-up. Maybe I will curl my eyelashes, put on a bit of chap-stick and if I'm tired, I will put a touch of concealer under my eyes or where I need it. But really, I don’t wear make-up during the day.

How do you get ready for a photo shoot the night before?

I'm always trying to keep my routine pretty consistent and keep my skin as healthy as possible. If I have a big shoot, sometimes I will get a facial. On a daily basis, even if I'm working that day, it will be the same routine I have every other day.

If you could pick any career other than modelling? What would it be?

I’d like to work in humanitarian aid. I just think it would be an amazing way to spend your life and your time, benefiting the world.

Can you tell us about your experience working with Dolce & Gabbana?

Every experience I have had working with them is amazing. To see them work is fascinating. You can see why they are so successful, because they work so well together. What they are trying to create, they are so passionate about. The designers are so involved in what they are doing. That is also really amazing and I think quite rare. They are really involved in the process and you can tell they genuinely love it, and they are so talented. It's special to see someone at work doing what they are obviously meant to do and what they are so good at.

If you could share one moment from one of your shoots, what would it be?

I would say one really amazing moment was when I was doing a shoot with Domenico and he was talking about how he was on vacation in Hawaii, sitting in front of the water, and there was a hula dancer and someone playing the ukulele and the sun was setting over the water. He said it was the most amazing thing he’s ever seen, and he was like, “I just don't understand how people get stressed out about things like fashion when there is this world that is so beautiful, so magnificent, that this sunset can take place every night.”

It was so amazing to hear someone say that. Someone who’s successful in the fashion industry, but also someone who knew what was really important in life. He loves fashion, but keeps his priorities in check. I think what I really admire about the designers is how important family is to them, how important good food is to them. They are very Italian in that way. They have this crazy fashion business, but they're not too wrapped up in it.

What is the best piece of advice you've ever received?

The best piece of advice would be to take life in stride. Life isn't always going to go the way you want it to or expect it to, but if you can learn a lesson from bad experiences and good experiences, and just keep things in stride, that’s important.

Are you a social media person?

I like Instagram, it's the only social media I have. I only follow my close friends and family and I'm not too into it. It's nice because I travel alone a lot and it's nice to share photographs of so many amazing places I've been to with my friends and family and sometimes strangers. Just to share the crazy beautiful architecture of a city. Sometimes when you are alone it's nice to share with other people, and I think that's a great medium to do it on.

Do you have any guilty pleasures?

Chocolate is probably my guiltiest pleasure. I like to tell myself it’s actually very healthy. Apparently it has antioxidants and it's good for the soul. I literally have it every single day. I like food that is good for your body and food that is good for your soul, and I try to find a balance between the two.

Who is someone you look up to in your industry?

I’ve met so many amazing girls and so many great models that have their heads on straight, and are doing this so well, but also balancing it with school at the same time. I have a great friend who is studying to be a doctor and she’s so serious about it, and she's one of the most popular, confident working models right now, but that doesn't deter her from medical school. She wants to be a doctor when it’s over and to me that’s admirable and she works really hard at balancing the two.

How did it feel walking down the runway for the very first time?

The first runway show I ever did back in New York was crazy. I remember feeling so nervous when we did the rehearsal. And the casting director was like, “You look so terrified, pull it together, girl.” And when we did the actual show, I did it, and I think I pulled it off. I didn't look too terrified. It was so rewarding, being terrified and conquering that fear of walking down the runway. And eventually you get a little more comfortable, and it’s as easy as walking down the street.

What is your favourite scent?

My favourite scent is Dolce, actually. There are so many amazing memories I have associated with it. It's so special.

What would you say is your favourite ingredient in it?

My favourite ingredient is the White Amaryllis, because it’s never been used in a fragrance before. It's a really special ingredient and scientists had to figure out how to extract it and they went through this amazing process, which is fascinating. They only found this type of White Amaryllis in South Africa. It's a rare, very special ingredient that I think makes this perfume stand out from the rest. No other perfume in the world has this. I think it’s pretty special.

Do you think your choice of perfume says anything about your personality?

I definitely think it does. I think it says something about your personality or your culture or your past, or even having someone make that choice for you, says something about you.

You feel most comfortable when...

I feel most comfortable when I'm with friends I really trust and we are watching movies and eating good food.

Your motto in life is...

My motto in life goes hand-in-hand with taking things in stride, and not taking yourself too seriously. To not take yourself too seriously is important.

How would you describe your off-model, off-duty fashion sense?

Pretty casual. I would love to dress up from day to day, but I'm the type of person who wakes up 5 minutes before I have to be somewhere. Part of the reason I have a simple beauty routine is I'm always running late! I'm in a T-shirt, and the way I like to jazz up an outfit is with accessories. A great pair of shoes, a great bag, maybe a great scarf or jacket. But I'm pretty casual. I do like beautiful accessories. That's a way to bring a little chicness to an outfit. Matching your shoes to your bag doesn't really matter, but the way you dress it up makes it special.

What’s one thing you can't leave home without?

One thing I can't leave home without is…there's not a lot. I guess without my credit card or some cash!
