…and it was awesome! Tough as hell, but it really was a great experience, something I wish to keep up regularly. So I walk into the power yoga class, every person has taken off their shoes and socks, sitting on their colorful yoga mats waiting for the instructor. Being the newbie that I was, I walked in, and copied the people around me. The main reason I wanted to go to the power yoga class, was to tone my body, fix my posture and be more zen and relaxed, you know, like the movies. Little did I know that yoga is HARD! It's not just breath in...breathe out...relax...be happy… No no, it is stretch, twist, make your head touch the floor, arch your back and connect your hands kind of thing. Balance and control of your breathing are key when it comes to power yoga, every time the instructor said, "breathe in," while waiting for her 'breath out' instruction, I would have already drawn in three or four breaths. When the instructor said, bend down and let your head touch the floor, my first reaction was laugh and think that is just not physically possible. Suffice to say, I was proven anything is possible.
Power yoga is definitely something I would recommend, the workout maybe intense at first, but once you get into it, it should be a piece of cake. After a while, your body will be toned and flexibility will be easy for you. At the end of the session, the instructor closed the lights and asked us to rest on our backs for just five minutes. Those five minutes felt like half an hour, as soft music in the background would play, and the instructor would come around and reposition our legs and backs. She applies a lovely smelling ointment to her hands, and rubs it to your shoulders. As the minutes go by, the instructor would say things like, 'be happy', and 'pursue your dreams.'
I came out of the power yoga feeling relaxed and happy that I just accomplished a great workout. Would I go again? Absolutely! In fact, I want to try and go at least twice a week. I highly recommend power yoga for you ladies, it is so worth it, especially when I saw most of the people in the class are regulars with fit toned bodies, and their heads can actually touch the floor. Here is hoping for me.
